Social Skills Groups
At ABI, the goal of our social skills groups is to create an environment where our kids can socialize with peers and learn skills that promote ongoing peer interaction outside of the group setting. Possible social skills goals for each child fall into the broad categories of:
- Conversation
- Cooperative play
- Friendship management
- Self-regulation
- Empathy
- Conflict management
- Perspective Taking
For each child, we create specific and individualized goals based on an initial social skills assessment. During each session, our kids work in pairs or groups to encourage partnership and cooperation.
Groups are held weekly for one to two hours after school and consist of no more than eight participants within a similar age group and skill level.
